Hoome of the 22nd Virginia Battalion

The 22nd Virginia Battalion was formed to educate the public through re-enactment, portrayal, and representative demonstrations of the daily military life, period weapons, and the battlefield tactics of the military units in American history. We provide simultaneous verbal explanations of such re-enactments to the public. We promote within the general community, an understanding and awareness of the contributions and achievements of military units and personalities serving in the American Civil War. We serve as an agency to encourage research to authentically portray and study military units and events in the Civil War.

Throughout the year, we will participate in various events. These events are Lincoln's Day with the Buffalo Historical Society & Yuletide at the Genesee Country Village. We have Membership meetings in January & March that we discuss past/future events. We have our annual Spring Camp of Instructions, our 22nd Picnic in the summer, complete with authentic baseball games. Finally, our Year End Banquet Awards that allow us to reflect on the past year. Each participating member receives an award, and we get to recognize our MVP's. We have a newsletter staff, which puts together a monthly newsletter for all members.

We have organized civilians who portray the citizens of Gloucester Point, VA. Our objective is to work on authentic period impressions, while adding to our Military Unit with authentic scenarios. We have a great deal of natural & diverse talents that we bring together to create a living history town. We have our school teachers, choir members, instrument players, photographers, sewing circles, politicians' & cooks. We use that talent toward our church gatherings, teas, tableaus, fashion shows & seminars. We also have our own Sutler, "Miss Patricia & the Politician"(www.misspatsews@netzero.net), dedicated to creating authentic uniforms and civilian apparel. Our scenarios are so authentic, it is difficult to imagine it is not 140 years ago.
