Bylaws:
- Minimum age for enlistment is sixteen (16) years of age. Participants under the age of
sixteen are required to have signed parental consent to participate. (Less than sixteen
years of age members are asked to participate as musicians.)
To carry a musket under the age of sixteen. The participant MUST
possess a New York State hunter safety certificate and have signed parental consent.

The 22nd Virginia Battalion Company G will be an all volunteer unit.

Membership applications must be filled out and signed by all members of the 22nd Virginia Battalion Company G. New recruits must submit an application before participating as a new member. Existing members must submit a new application annually by January 31st of each year or else they will be dropped from the roster of the unit.

Membership Dues: Membership dues will be at a cost of $25.00 per household address. Membership dues are to cover administrative costs of the unit. Dues will be used primarily for the following: monthly newsletter, insurance coverage, maintaining of the company trailer, and maintaining web site (www.22ndva.com). Dues are due by no later than January 31st of each year. If dues are not paid by this time and a Staff member has not been contacted than the member will be dropped from the roster of the unit.

All members must be completely uniformed and equipped authentically within one
year in accordance with current unit policy. No individual will be allowed on the field
without proper gear. (Refer to first year equipment list.)

When in uniform or period dress, regardless of location, all members will obey orders
and instructions given them by their officers and show proper respect in general. When
under arms or at functions, proper military and civilian respect is mandatory. Members
will adhere to all guidelines of the host unit.

Family Participation is encouraged.

Unit meetings will be held on the third Sunday of months that do not involve unit
functions. All other meetings will be held at events and members will be given ample time
in advance of said meetings.

The 22nd Battalion Virginia Infantry Co. G accepts no responsibilities or
liability for injuries whatsoever in or out uniform or period dress at any scheduled unit
function.

All members equipment MUST be marked with name unit
and unit number.

All musket barrels must be bright and free of all bluing agents.
-
All company equipment must be returned to the company trailer following every event.

Women as soldiers:
There will be no women as soldiers within the military ranks of the 22nd Battalion
Virginia Infantry Company G

All members must sign a form stating that they have read the by-laws and agree to abide
by the said by-laws.

There are seven "maximum" effort events scheduled throughout the year.
-
Members are asked to attend at least 50% of scheduled maximum scheduled events.

At scheduled events, all members will be in uniform and proper
military attire once camp has been established.
-
While in uniform, NO modern anachronisms whatsoever will be tolerated.
-
All members will at least wear an authentic shirt, trousers, and shoes at
all times while at events unless otherwise directed.

While in uniform, all instructions given by the unit leadership will be
obeyed promptly and without question. Absolutely no orders or instructions will be given that is considered improper or hazardous to
your personal safety.

All due respect will be accorded to all officers, at all times according
to their rank and in accordance with military regulations for the period.
-
When under arms, the strictest compliance with military bearing courtesy
and etiquette will be observed in accordance with the military regulations of the period.
-
All weapons will be maintained in a proper military manner during events.
All weapons will be properly cleaned in the evening following battles or the following
morning before inspections.

In the field, all members will be present for all scheduled musters and
formations. Chronic absenteeism will not be tolerated.

All commissioned officers of the army you are representing, regardless of
unit, will be saluted and accorded proper military respect.
At the conclusion of each days activities, a formation will be
held and the unit will be dismissed until the next days formation unless otherwise
directed. At such time, a general relaxation of normal discipline and military demeanor
will be permitted. However, basic military respect and conduct will be observed.

GUIDELINES FOR CIVILIAN AUTHENTICITY
The following guidelines should be used when developing a civilian impression:
-
NO obvious 20th or 21st century anachronisms permitted:
- No modern eyeglasses
- No modern wristwatches
- No modern type jewelry i.e. post earrings (exceptions to this rule are wedding and
engagement rings)
- No zippers, snaps, Velcro
- NO obvious 20th or 21st century make-up including:
- Mascara only charcoal or India ink
- Eyeliner and eyeshadow
- Colored lipstick
- Foundation
- Blusher
- No nail polish colored or clear
- Obvious synthetics are prohibited: no nylon net, double knits, modern denims, etc.
- Women over 17 years of age need to have their arms, shoulders, chests, and hands covered
during the day. Boat necklines and short sleeves are acceptable for children only.
T-Bodice are acceptable after 3pm only.
- Proper undergarments are expected. Some allowances may be made for especially hot days,
or for women just starting the hobby.
- NO loose, flowing hair. Unconfined hair is acceptable only on children. Bangs need to be
brushed back from face and parted in the middle. Sausage curls were worn only by young
teens and dated older women.
- ABSOLUTELY no cigarette smoking in camp or public.
- Kid gloves were worn in public, some older women still wore mitts or fingerless gloves.
Cotton gloves, white, ivory or black gloves are acceptable.
- Respectable ladies may have had a light dusting of rice powder, which was proper for the
period, on their faces.
- NO obvious 20th or 21st century footwear: No sneakers, sandals,
jellies, open toed shoes, flip-flops, or pumps.
- NO bare legs, nylons, knee highs or panty hose.
- When leaving camp, ladies must have a bonnet on their head. No proper woman appeared in
public without a bonnet.
- Ladies hair must be confined in a hair net, hair nets were mostly black, not white.
Colored snoods are discouraged.
- Parents must be in control of their children at all times.
- All children in diapers, whether a boy or girl will be in dresses and bonnets.
- If in disposable diapers, a cloth diaper must be pinned over that diaper, and white
leotards put on.
- No sneakers for children or babies. You can use little black boots or white high top
shoes.
- If bottle fed, you must wrap in cloth, so plastic does not show.
For your own and others enrichment, a true effort should be made to remain in period
dress at all times. These are general guidelines. We do try to be flexible and will be
